2012 ford e-series wagon review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Big power, big capability. introductionthe ford super duty pickups offer a pair of superb engines and can tow bumper-pull trailers that weigh up to 17,500 pounds or 24,500 with a fifth-wheel setup. Their bold, handsome exteriors are backed up by cabs that are attractive, functional and comfortable. Lariat and king ranch models are downright luxurious. The f-450 pickup that shares cab and wheel sizes with the f-250 and f-350 remains atop the towing ratings for pickups.  the ford super duty got a major overhaul for 2011 with all-new diesel and gasoline engines, a new 6-speed automatic transmission, and new front styling. Changes for the 2012 model year are minor.  the 6. 2-liter v8 gasoline engine that comes standard is rated at 385 hp in f-250 models and 316 hp on the majority of f-350 versions. Both engines come with a 6-speed automatic transmission; no manual is offered.  for 2012, the gas engine may be ordered with a cng/propane prep option. Also, short-bed models (6. 75-foot) offer a factory gooseneck hitch package previously reserved for long beds.  there is nothing small about a super duty and even the shortest, plainest version represents three tons of mass. The new diesel is quiet by heavy-duty truck standards.  super duty xl and xlt are designed for the cost/benefit analysis small businesses and independents use: a simple, fast trailer hookup, 4wd to get in/out of the job site, and a warm cab they can be blown clean with compressed air. Crew chief allows a dispatcher real-time truck location, speed, and fuel economy, potentially useful for the friday-night parent as well.  as usual the top tow and payload ratings are up from mid-year 2011 models, often to numbers that require a commercial driver's license. Best-in-class numbers for heavy-duty pickups sometimes change several times in a year, but they typically apply to just one model. The super duty xl, xlt and lariat trims extend to most models. The super duty f-450 pickup, in long-bed, crew cab 4wd comes standard with the diesel.  pricing for heavy-duty pickups takes megabytes given all the possible permutations. A step up in trim level may add a different cab, box length, or engine, which is why a supercab is $3500-$4700 more than a regular cab, and a crew cab is $5000-$6750 beyond a regular cab. Buying up from xl to xlt trim typically adds $2500-$3500, from xlt to lariat $4000-$7500, and lariat to king ranch $3000-$6500.  the super duty xl is work-truck, low-budget in nature, with vinyl seats and flooring, black painted grille and bumpers, plain trim, and am/fm stereo, but it does include air conditioning, towing mirrors, trip computer, tilt/telescoping steering wheel and a weight-appropriate receiver hitch. Options are primarily mechanical in nature: diesel, locking differential, larger tires and wheels, snow plow prep, integrated fifth-wheel/gooseneck hitch prep package 380), camper package, off-road package for 4wd, tow command 230), auxiliary switches, dual or larger single alternators, reverse sensors, tailgate step, work solutions in-dash computer 1395) and tool link 1120). Supercabs also include flip-out rear side windows, super and crew get an overhead console, and the f-450 has forged aluminum wheels.  super duty xlt adds chrome trim, aluminum wheels, 40/20/40 cloth front seat with under-seat lockable compartment, carpet, cd player, power windows/locks/mirrors, power-adjusted and heated towing mirrors, privacy glass, the integrated brake controller for single-rear wheel trucks, remote keyless entry, mykey, and cruise control. Dimensions are easily given in yards rather than inches. The power stroke badges have been given a hybrid-like green leaf with b20 in reference to the ability to burn biodiesel fuel, but only compared to other huge trucks might a super duty be considered green.  regardless of bulging flares or flared nostrils no super duty would be mistaken for anything less than a full-size pickup even with nothing scalable within sight. The clamshell hood essentially shrink-wraps the diesel engine underneath, and the rounded edges and deeper air dam have improved the coefficient of aero drag from about 0. 45 to 0. 425 cd. By comparison, an aerodynamic sedan has a drag coefficient closer to 0. 27.  super duty box sides have a large fuel door, which allows room for the additional diesel exhaust fluid fill for diesel versions. Reverse lights are at the top of the tail-lamp assembly, so far off the ground they are really nothing more than signaling devices that the truck is in reverse. The available rearview camera works well at night, however. Wheels range from 17 to 20 inches in diameter, all of aluminum except the base 17-inch steel wheels.  towing mirrors that come optional work very well. They telescope and fold (manual or powered), and include two large convex mirror elements for safe rear vision with the widest street-legal trailers. The towing mirrors include signal repeaters that won't distract the driver. A camera mounted in the tailgate center latch housing linked to a display on the navigation screen or inside the rearview mirror gives the driver a good review of what's behind.  an optional tailgate step is available that pops out of the tailgate for an easier step up to the bed; the step is rated at 1000 pounds. A grab handle flips up like a walking stick to further aid stepping up to the bed; the grab handle is rated at 300 pounds. We've found this setup handy at times and it doesn't usually get in the way. The tailgate also includes an assist so the very heavy tailgate feels less heavy. Unlike the toyota tundra, however, the assist doesn't do much to slow the tailgate when lowering it so be careful not to let it slam down.

2012 ford flex review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The ford flex is a full-size family vehicle that features three-rows of seating, bold styling and is highly functional. The flex competes directly in the popular crossover segment. The front-wheel or all-wheel drive flex is powered by a 262-hp 3. 5-liter v6 engine. Available on all-wheel drive models only is a 355-hp 3. 5-liter twin-turbo v6 engine featuring ecoboost. Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, with the ecoboost models providing steering wheel paddle shifters. Seven-passenger seating is standard on all trim levels. Available features include the sync communication and entertainment system, a multi-panel vista roof, interior refrigerator, and capless fueling. For 2012, the second row bench seat in the limited and titanium now includes a flip out armrest with two cupholders. The ecoboost engine is no longer available on the sel awd trim.

2012 ford focus review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, next-generation models are smooth and quiet. introductiontotally redesigned, the 2012 ford focus looks, feels, and smells like the future. It makes its claim as the technology and fuel-mileage leader in the compact car class, a crowded and competitive field full of good cars with base prices in the $16,000-$17,000 range: volkswagen jetta, chevrolet cruze, honda civic, toyota corolla, subaru impreza, hyundai elantra, mazda3, mitsubishi lancer, kia forte.  but the focus is a mixed bag of function. The new 2. 0-liter engine is super smooth, but the new 6-speed automatic transmission shifts at quirky times. The fabric seats are super, the interior materials excellent and the wraparound cockpit cozy, but there isn't much rear legroom.  focus looks like a big fiesta, with an unmistakably ford shape. It's lower, longer and wider. The new focus hatchback model is especially aerodynamic looking. The windshield is steeply raked and roofline steeply dropped to the liftgate glass, making about as much of a teardrop as a chopped hatchback can be. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard, 6-speed automatic optional, with selectshift manual mode an option to the optional transmission. The engine makes 160 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque, an increase over last year's engine. It's plenty powerful, but mostly, it's extremely smooth. That's what a driver will feel: 'man, this car is smoooth.'  we observed fuel economy in the mid-20s when we were driving the focus. Fuel economy figures from the u. Federal government were not available when this was written.  there's excellent legroom in front, but compared to the previous focus, ford has somehow lost 2. 9 inches of legroom in the rear, despite stretching the length of the car by 3. 5 inches. The importance of rear legroom appears to have been discounted here.  interior noise was definitely not discounted, however. The focus is a compact car with the nvh qualities of a full-size car. A lot of productive effort went into making the cabin silent, with sound insulation. Powertrain noise has also been reduced, by attentive engineering of the new engine, transmission, and chassis.  myford touch powered by sync is the connectivity system that ford is touting with its new cars. The driver uses three senses: see, hear, touch. Ford says the system is designed to be simple and completely intuitive for the driver, and maybe it is designed that way, but that doesn't mean it works that way. We struggled with it. And we think all this technology can distract drivers from the important task of driving.  the gauges that are in front of the driver's eyes are easy to read: big tach and speedo with cool blue needles, fuel and engine temp between them, and easy-to-read digital info above the fuel and temp. The focus ride is good, with a suspension that's on the soft side, which doesn't help precise turning. We also drove a focus se with the 5-speed manual transmission and sport-tuned suspension. Ah, relief. lineupthe 2012 ford focus comes in sedan and hatchback versions. All use a redesigned 2. 0-liter engine with the latest technology of variable twin camshaft valve timing and direct fuel injection. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard, 6-speed automatic optional, with selectshift manual mode an option to the optional transmission.  focus s sedan 16,270) is well equipped with cloth upholstery, climate control with air filtration, power door locks and front windows, full center console, 110-watt 4-speaker am/fm/cd3/mp3 sound system, fold-flat rear seat, tilt-telescoping steering wheel, 15-inch steel wheels, halogen headlamps, and black grille, mirrors and door handles. No cruise control or usb port or bluetooth, rear windows are rollup and rear brakes are drum.  focus se sedan 17,270) and hatchback 18,065) add body-color mirrors and door handles, floormats, foglamps, auto headlamps, illuminated entry, compass and temp display, steering-wheel audio controls, power rear windows, and 16-inch steel wheels. Still no cruise control, usb port or bluetooth, and rear drums. An optional sport package features firmer suspension tuning and selectshift.  focus sel sedan 20,070) and hatchback 21,065) upgrade over se with dual-zone climate control, a six-speaker sound system, 12-volt power for rear seat, piano black grille, chrome beltline trim, ambient lighting, overhead console, metallic interior trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, 60/40 rear seats, 16-inch painted aluminum wheels, myford touch handsfree driver connect, sync elements with usb port, cruise control and rear disc brakes. The 6-speed automatic transmission includes selectshift manual operation.  focus titanium sedan 22,270) and hatchback 22,765) come loaded with a 10-speaker sony sound system with hd sirius radio, pushbutton start, 8-inch touch screen, 4-inch info display screen, sport cloth seats, sport-tuned suspension, and 17-inch aluminum wheels. There's a hatchback with premium package 24,060) that upgrades to leather upholstery with six-way power driver's seat, rain-sensing wipers, backup system, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and rear armrest with storage. Options include leather seats, power moonroof, voice-activated navigation, parking technology, and special interior trim.  safety equipment in all focus models includes six airbags with the latest technology, electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes (abs) with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, and tire pressure monitor. walkaroundthe all-new focus looks like a big fiesta, with an unmistakably ford shape. The new hatchback is especially aerodynamic looking. It yields a 0. 295 coefficient of drag, an improvement by nearly 8 percent over the previous focus. Active grille shutters block airflow to the radiator when it's not required, which improves aerodynamics and fuel mileage. Nascar racers did this with cardboard and duct tape for years, but now it's fully electronic; the shutters have 15 different positions, based on engine temperature. Other cars such as the new chevrolet cruze are doing it, as well.  ford calls the distinctive grille split trapezoid. There are eight thin horizontal bars in a huge-mouthed trapezoid whose wide side is the bottom and is divided into three segments by two body-colored vertical bars like catfish chin whiskers. It looks better than it sounds, balanced by a horizontal opening above it, with one thin chrome bar and a neat blue ford oval. The long thin trapezoidish headlamps wrap forward and downward from the cheeks of the car. They're like sweeping dragon's eyes, says ford in their best metaphor yet.  sculpted lines at the sills and door handles flow back from neat modest flared front fenders to give the focus a forward-moving slant: kinetic design energy, ford calls it. The windshield is steeply raked and roofline steeply dropped to the liftgate glass, making about as much of a teardrop as a chopped hatchback can be. The side window outline is shaped like a picture of smoke traveling over a sleek car in a wind tunnel. Big vertical taillamps are nice and safe and volvo-like.  the focus se looks cleaner, we think, lacking chrome beltline trim. The 17-inch titanium wheels are multi-spoke wagon wheels, better looking than the optional 18-inch wheels that are like big chrome stars with thin prongs.  the all-new focus chassis is 30 percent stiffer. It uses a crash structure designed for the larger taurus. More than 55 percent is high-strength steels, including boron b-pillars and front beam, and a decoupling powertrain cradle to keep the engine out of the cabin in a head-on crash. interiorford has been very ambitious the last few years, engineering-wise, and it shows. It shows in the interior of the focus. It's as if they took everything on their to-do list, and stuffed it in the cockpit. It's as busy as they are.  but ambition is good. Because ford went all-out with the new focus interior, there are some great things, starting with the standard seats in sturdy fabric, and the leather-like seats in the sel. Too bad the new chevrolet cruze doesn't have seats like the focus; if its interior matched its great handling and engine, there might be a good gm-ford battle in an important segment. Oh, it's good anyhow.  the word cockpit when used with a car is an awkward fit. But not with the focus. That was the way it was designed, to feel like a cockpit. With all its bells and whistles, geeks will love it, drivin' down the highway feelin' like a pilot, all those switches right nearby, led ambient lighting in a choice of seven colors to suit his or her mood, controls that feel like they wrap around to the elbows on the centerstack, displays to set and adjust with dials and buttons, readouts to read and scroll through, maps to follow, touch-screens to touch, voi. With the optional towing package, the standard 4wd expedition is rated at 9,000 pounds, the 2wd at 9,200 pounds, the 2wd el at 8,900 pounds, and the 4wd el at 8,700 pounds.  inside are rich materials and generous space for passengers in all three seating rows. That's nice on long drives. With its combination of utility, a smooth, stable ride and a pleasant interior, the ford expedition is a fine choice for families that tow or take driving vacations.  the ford expedition comes in two lengths, the standard model with a 119-inch wheelbase, and the expedition el with its 131-inch wheelbase. Extended-length expedition el models add more cargo-carrying capacity, especially noticeable when trying to load groceries or gear behind the third-row seats.  expedition is powered by a single-overhead-cam 5. 4-liter v8 rated at 310 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard equipment. Front park assist is now standard on limited and king ranch. Heated rear seats are now optional on xlt. And all versions come with standard spotter mirrors. The current-generation expedition was launched as a 2007 model. lineupthe 2012 ford expedition xl 36,305) and 4wd xl 39,205) come with cloth upholstery on front captain's chairs, second-row 40/20/40 split bench reclining fold-flat seat with centerslide, full-length overhead console, large floor console, power door locks, power windows, heated power mirrors with integrated spotter mirrors, carpeting, auto-dimming mirror, three power points, leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, keyless entry, am/fm/cd/mp3 with audio input jack, fog lamps, luggage rack, and 17-inch aluminum wheels. A third-row 60/40 split bench seat that folds flat to the floor is optional 875).  the expedition el xl 39,830) and expedition el xl 4wd 42,730) are equipped basically the same, except that the third-row seat is standard, and the alloy wheels upgrade to 18 inches.  options include sync voice-activated communication and entertainment system 395), heavy-duty trailer towing 395), rear-seat entertainment 1,995), and remote start 345).  the expedition xlt 38,915) and xlt 4wd 41,815), expedition el xlt 41,625) and el xlt 4wd 44,525) add reverse-sensing system, sync, premium sound system, power-adjustable pedals, universal garage door opener, power rear quarter windows,18-inch alloy wheels, and a large selection of other trim and convenience features. Xlt options include a moonroof 995), power running boards 995), air suspension 485), leather 2,265), heated rear seats 395), and voice-activated navigation 2,105). The xlt is also available with three comprehensive packages with increasing levels of features, the 201a 4,425), 202a 5,610), and 203a 5,855).  expedition limited 45,045) and limited 4wd 47,945), limited el 47,695) and limited el 4wd 50,595) add heated and cooled front seats, dual-zone climate control, memory for driver's seat and exterior mirrors, rear-view camera, rain-sensing wipers, power liftgate, heated second row seats, powerfold third-row rear seat, leather, and a wide range of additional convenience and trim features. Limited decor group 301a 1,490) adds a moonroof and power running boards. Polished 20-inch alloy wheels 1,395) are also available.  expedition king ranch 46,555) and king ranch 4wd 49,455), king ranch el 49,205) and king ranch el 4wd 52,105) feature chaparral leather upholstery, king ranch badging, and gold exterior accents. The leather trims the center console lid, steering wheel and door panels, while wood trim can be found on the center console, shifter handle and instrument panel. There is also a king ranch decor group 401a 1,490), which adds navigation and power running boards. Painted 20-inch alloy wheels 1,195) are optional.  safety equipment includes front airbags, torso-protecting front side airbags, three-row head-protecting side-curtain airbags with rollover deployment, tire-pressure monitor, anti-lock brakes (abs) with brake assist, and advancetrac electronic stability control with roll stability control (rsc) and trailer sway control. A rear obstacle detection system is standard on xlt, limited, and king ranch. Forward-pointing parking sensors are standard on limited and king ranch. walkaroundthe ford expedition is a truck and it doesn't pretend to be anything else. This is a good identity to have, because ford trucks continue to have an outstanding reputation for utility, reliability and durability.  both the long and regular-length versions of the expedition use many of the components from the ford f-150 pickup. However, the expedition features independent rear suspension, which improves driving precision, ride comfort, and rear-seat roominess.  expedition features a three-bar grille, large headlights, and a domed hood that combine to deliver a look that's both distinctive and respectable. There are several different wheel designs, including 20-inchers with a polished (limited) or painted (king ranch) finish.  expedition rides on a wheelbase of 119. 0 inches, while the expedition el models stretch that to 131. 0 inches. Overall, the el measures 14. 8 inches longer than the standard expedition, and that adds slightly over 22 cubic feet of cargo volume, from 108. 3 cubic feet for the expedition to 130. 8 for the el.  the expedition and the expedition el are big vehicles, measuring more than 17 feet from nose to tail. As a result, crowded parking lots can be challenging. The expedition has a turning circle of nearly 41 feet, while the el requires nearly 44 feet.  they're also heavy, as even the base 2wd expedition weighs over 5,500 pounds, and a loaded el with 4wd tops 6,200.  the king ranch model can be identified by its gold exterior accents and unique wheel design.  the expedition comes with running boards as standard equipment. Power retractable running boards that deploy when the doors are opened are optional. Some owners prefer no running boards, but that doesn't appear to be an option. interiorthe ford expedition features a rich blend of finishes, textures and color. Wood, chrome and leather make the expedition an inviting place to spend a day on the road. Leather-upholstered examples are available with a heating/cooling feature that makes them a more comfortable companion in winter and summer. Generous driver's-seat travel helps accommodate taller drivers, and it's a perfect match for the expedition's movable pedals, so a wide range of sizes of drivers can sit comfortably.  the second seating row reflects ford's thoughtful approach to passenger comfort: the standard 40/20/40 bench seat incorporates a center section that slides, bringing a child seat within easier reach of front-seat passengers. Optional second-row captain's chairs with a center-aisle pass-through can be substituted for adult-rated comfort.  packaging advantages afforded by the expedition's independent rear suspension enable the third-row seat to deliver more comfort for adults compared to the accommodations provided by the chevy tahoe. In fact, third-row room is among the best of any suv, though three adults won't want to sit in the back for long. The high ride height also makes getting in and out a task for children.  the liftgate with its flip-up glass hatch makes access to the cargo area very easy. The second- and third-row bench-type seats fold flat into the cargo floor, affording a long cargo area that can be easily loaded. In this regard, the expedition is much better designed than gm's large suvs. The expedition is also available with an optional power-folding third-row seat and electronically powered liftgate to make it even easier to load cargo. However, the seat cushions of the second- and third-row seats are a little slim in order to allow the seats to fold properly.  the expedition is about more than convenience. A dvd-based navigation system with sizable 6. 5-inch screen is available as an option. The rear-seat dvd entertainment system has an eight-inch screen that flips down from the headliner and also includes two sets of wireless headphones. A plug-in jack for an mp3 player is standard across the line. The expedition is even a nice place to be when all the entertainment is switched off, as the combination of thick glass and a generous amount of.

2012 ford explorer review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A new kind of explorer gets a new kind of engine. introductionout of the box, the ford explorer has demonstrated itself to be one the best, seven-passenger sport-utility vehicles available. It delivers the function and family friendly features of a minivan with a more rugged emotional appeal, off-road and towing capability for those who need it, and suv mileage that was unheard of back in the day.  the venerable explorer was essentially re-invented for 2011, and ford might have taken a pass on further improvements for 2012. The opposite is true. It has more power than the standard v6 in the previous-generation explorer, with half the displacement, and it delivers the highest epa mileage ratings in this class: 20/28 mpg city/highway.  this latest-generation explorer has a one-piece, unitized body and frame like the typical sedan, rather than an old-school, ladder-type truck frame with a separate, bolted on body. Both the 2. 0 ecoboost and the standard 3. 5-liter v6 are more powerful than previous-generation engines, yet mileage improves up to 40 percent.  the 2012 explorer is available in base, xlt and limited trim levels. All are great looking, rugged in a familiar suv way, but also fresh and aerodynamically refined, and all models seat seven. This big suv actually looks smaller than it is.  inside, there is class-leading legroom in the second row, real space for passengers in the third, and up to 80. 7 cubic-feet of cargo space. It can be reconfigured in seconds, with split rear seats that fold with a button on each side and bounce back up with the pull of a lever. The interior is smartly styled and well finished. The materials are good and the build quality great.  the base explorer comes well equipped, with all the essentials, plenty of niceties and no overly complicated controls. The leather-upholstered, heated-seat limited is luxury grade. It's offered with nearly all the bells and whistles, including premium audio, navigation and rear-seat dvd entertainment. We prefer the standard 290-horspower v6. It delivers smooth, strong acceleration, and ranks near the top of the class in both horsepower and fuel economy: 17/25 mpg.  explorer's chassis is super rigid, using twice as much high-strength steel as the old. That makes for not only great crash-test scores, but also a quiet cabin, excellent ride quality and solid handling that belies the explorer's considerable size.  all-wheel drive is available on all models with the v6. The all-wheel drive maximizes traction with a fancy electronic system called terrain management. Even with regular all-season tires rather than specialized tires, the explorer will blast through sand or traverse deep ditches and steep hills, no problem. And it has the smoothest ride we've encountered over such terrain.  ford claims the explorer has 10 segment-exclusive features or systems, starting with a couple of safety standouts: the optional inflatable rear seatbelts and standard curve control, which applies braking to individual wheels as needed to correct corner trajectory. Beyond the required complement of front, front-side and head-protection airbags, it has an extra knee-protection airbag for the front passenger and all the electronic traction and stability systems, including rollover mitigation and trailer sway control. lineupthe 2012 ford explorer comes in three models. Each comes standard with a 290-hp, 3. 5-liter v6 engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Options are limited to ford's sync voice activation and phone connection system 295), satellite radio hardware 195), a cargo shade 135), and a tow package 570).  explorer xlt 31,995) adds upgraded cloth seats, leather steering wheel and shift knob, basic sync and satellite radio, a security touchpad on the driver's door, automatic headlamps, heated sideview mirrors with led turn signals and security approach lamps, a backup warning beeper and 18-inch painted aluminum wheels.  explorer limited 37,995) adds leather seats, 10-way power driver seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, 390-watt sony audio with cd changer, selectshift manual mode for the 6-speed automatic transmission, power folding outside mirrors, ambient lighting, adjustable pedals with memory, cargo net, a rearview camera, remote start, a 110-volt outlet, 20-inch painted aluminum wheels, and last but not least the myfordtouch driver connect technology. Second-row captain's chairs are available on limited.  options for the xlt and limited are plentiful, somewhat confusing and grouped in various packages. One of the most popular is equipment group 202a 2,250) for the xlt, which includes leather seating, the 10-way power driver seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, rearview camera and ambient lighting. Stand alone options include a voice-activated navigation system 795), a panoramic glass sunroof 1,595), dual-screen rear seat dvd system 1,995) and a power liftgate 495).  safety features are headlined by ford's new curve control, which applies braking to individual wheels as needed to correct corner trajectory. It's part of a comprehensive electronics suite, which also includes antilock brakes and ford's activetrack stability system with rollover mitigation and trailer sway control. Standard crash protection starts with dual-threshold front airbags, a front passenger knee protection airbag, front-seat side impact airbags, head-protection curtains for all outboard seats and sos post-crash alert. The insurance institute for highway safety rates the explorer a top safety pick.  one optional safety feature is the industry-first inflatable rear seatbelts, which spread impact forces over an area five times greater than conventional seat belts, reducing pressure on the chest and helping to control head and neck motion. Other safety options include the rearview camera and rear obstacle warning, adaptive cruise control with collision warning and brake support, and a blind-sport warning system with cross-traffic alert. All-wheel drive can improve handling stability in slippery conditions. walkaroundthe ford explorer is a looker, rugged but refined, familiar but definitely fresh. Five new metallic paint colors for 2012 enhance its polished appearance.  re-invented for 2011, the current explorer is 4 inches longer and 5 inches wider than its body-on-frame predecessor. It's a foot longer than ford's edge crossover, a few inches shorter than the dodge durango suv and about eight inches shorter than the chevy traverse. Yet it's several inches wider than all of them.  explorer's width is evident in its confident stance, but its smooth styling cheats the eye. It has beefy but smooth proportions, with fluid lines that are more aerodynamic than before. The amber indicators sweep back like narrow wings atop tidy main projector beams. The plastic grille is gray on the base explorer, body-colored on the xlt (the best looking), and satin-chrome on the limited. The hood looks short from the side but long when looking straight down it. It's got two parallel humps and a scoop in the center, smoother than it sounds. Rear taillights are led, and also look good. We still like body-colored better.  the window outline is clean, bold and symmetrical, with blackened a-, b-, and d-pillars, and body-colored c-pillars that slant down and back and impart forward motion to the vehicle. The fender flares are inspired by the mustang, body sides follow the lines of the taurus, and the three-bar grille strikes clearly of range rover (until recently part of the ford family). There's a rich, shiny brownish color called golden bronze metallic that we swear we've seen on range rovers, only it looks even better on the explorer.  wheels are 17-inch steel with plastic cov.

2012 ford fiesta review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A standout among small cars. introductionthe ford fiesta is among the best of an impressive choice of recently redesigned subcompacts. Completely redesigned for 2011, fiesta carries over with no significant changes for 2012. Some believe the second year of production is the sweet spot: all the bugs have been worked out yet the design is still new enough to offer the latest advances in safety engineering and fuel efficiency. If that's true, the 2012 ford fiesta is in the sweet spot.  the 2012 fiesta comes in hatchback and sedan versions and the two body styles make distinct statements.  the fiesta sedan is an interesting combination of an american style econobox with softened edges and a high rear deck (trunk lid). The fiesta hatchback presents a more satisfying, euro like profile, with nicely wedged side character lines and an almost sensuously rounded posterior. We prefer the hatch.  inside, fiesta features a voice activated infotainment system that augments the traditional am/fm/cd/mp3 stereo with audio and podcasts streamed into the sound system via a bluetooth link to a smart phone. Non voice audio controls and creature comfort settings revert to basic knobs and buttons that are sized and arrayed for ease of use with minimal distraction from the driving task.  comfortable seats have enough side and bottom bolsters to keep occupants properly positioned, but gingerly, without obstructing ingress and egress. Quality of interior materials is either on a par with or a tick or two above the expected standard for cars in the fiesta's class. Ford wants to boost this even further, too, with something not commonly found on cars in this size and price class: leather seating surfaces and heated front seats are optional on the top of the line sedan and hatchback.  we found the fiesta feels right at home running around town and on weekend errands. We found its 120 horsepower sufficient to tackle the daily commute in stride. The ride quality is smooth, important in the daily grind. Wind and road noise is decently muted. It handles long weekend drives well, also.  fiesta is available with a 6 speed transmission that works like an automatic but gets the fuel economy of a manual transmission. This twin clutch, automated manual is the best of both worlds for people who like driving but live in the big city: there's no clutch pedal to have to work repeatedly yet the driver can engage in authentic manual transmission gear changes. There's also the traditionally better fuel economy of a manual gearbox. Fuel economy is an epa estimated city/highway rating of 29/38 miles per gallon for the 6 speed against 28/37 mpg for the standard 5 speed manual. Steel wheels with a eight spoke hubcap wear 185/65r15 tires. Options include a convenience package 495) combining a cd/mp3 player with remote keyless entry and auto lock doors. Fiesta se 14,500) comes with the fiesta s convenience package content plus upgraded upholstery, metallic painted interior trim accents, power windows, trip computer, and 195/60r15 tires, still on steel wheels. Option packages include sync entertainment center with six speakers and 80 watts, redundant audio controls on the steering wheel and usb equipped center console 595), and a sport appearance group 545) that includes painted aluminum wheels, cruise control, led running lamps and deck lid spoiler. Or bundle the two packages together for significant savings 895).  fiesta sel 16,600) has everything that is standard and optional on the s and the se, plus rear seat floor mats, seven color ambient lighting, a second, rear seat auxiliary power point, auto dim rearview mirror, sirius satellite radio, and leather wrapped steering wheel. Fiesta sel comes with 195/50r16 tires on painted aluminum wheels. An option group adds chrome external trim, heated front seats, perimeter alarm and keyless door unlock/pushbutton start/stop 795).  the fiesta hatchback has two trim levels, se 15,500) and ses 17,500). Standard equipment on the se hatchback tracks the se sedan's, as does the available package combining sync with a stereo upgrade 595). Also available is the sport appearance group 295) and a package combining both packages 695), both cost less because the hatchback comes standard with a spoiler. Also new is a two-tone leather option 925), available in black-and-red or black-and-white, on the 2012 fiesta sel sedan and 2012 fiesta ses hatchback. Single-tone leather is available in plum, cashmere, and black.  options include a power sunroof 745), keyless entry keypad 95), illuminated interior accessories 410), cargo organizer 115), and various appearance items.  the super fuel economy package, or sfe, for the fiesta se hatchback 395) and sedan 695) comprises cruise control, partial grille blockers, side air deflectors, underbody shields and 195/60r15 t-rated (low rolling resistance) tires. It is available only with the automatic transmission, and it boosts epa-estimated highway fuel economy to 40 mpg.  safety equipment that comes standard includes seven airbags, with dual stage frontal, front seat side impact, side curtain and driver knee, antilock brakes, electronic stability control, tire pressure monitoring system, and child safety seat anchors (latch). walkaroundford stylists describe the lower grille opening as a reverse trapezoid. Bottom-feeding catfish fits, too. The body colored treatment of the hatchback's upper grille is a better fit for the car's proportions, and market position, than the ford fusion themed horizontal chrome strips on the sedan. The geometrical exercises that frame the led driving lights on the uplevel models conflict with the otherwise, flowing round shapes of the front fascia and the double creased fender arches. Eyed head on, the stance is solid, with the front tires visible outside of the leading edges of the fenders.  viewed from the side, what's forward of the sedan's c-pillar (the vertical frame behind the rear side door's window) looks right. The front wheelwell arch may overwhelm the tire and the parallel character lines on the upper and lower door panels a little too sharply creased, but the silhouette shows a relatively fast windshield, wraparound headlights that minimize the front overhang and a good balance between body and window. From the c-pillar aft, however, something's out of line or alignment. Either the backlight (the rear glass) is too round or too fast or the deck lid is too short (which also means a small trunk opening). It's as if that part of the sedan belongs on a larger car.  the side hindquarters of the hatchback, on the other hand, share none of this uncertainty, with all the lines, even the brazen character slashes on the doors, coming together in a shapely collection of complementary facets. Perchance this is because the hatchback is some 13 inches shorter overall than the sedan. Whatever, it's a tauter package and a better fit for the wheelbase, which is the same on both models. (the wheelbase is the distance between the wheels, front to rear.)  the posterior of the sedan is econo car generic and wouldn't look out of place on any number of pacific rim import brands. The chrome strip topping the license plate recess gives the trunk lid a touch of class. The black valance panel across the bottom of the rear bumper helpfully reduces the visual mass. The hatchback's vertically arrayed taillights brace the liftgate, which is hinged far enough forward that opening demands minimal space behind the car. The spoiler perches atop the rear window like an eyelid. The lip running the full width of the liftgate ties into the upper side character line and gives some heft to the lower portion of the liftgate, contrasting well with a black lower valance slightly more prominent than the sedan's.  for 2012, the new premium sport appearance group for the ses hatch blacks out the headlight buckets and the ersatz brake scoops beneath them, plus the outside mirrors and the rear spoiler. The familiar five-hole wheels are polished to a chrome-like finish. Ford claims the look contrasts with th.
