It's roomy and comfortable in all seating positions, with enough space for a family with several children. All are the same length, and all come with dual sliding rear doors. Power rear doors are optional, however. Dual sliding doors are a $795 option. of the three trim levels, the ce is basic: cruise control, and power windows, locks and mirrors are all optional. mid-line le comes with all the popular features. It comes standard with dual-temperature air conditioning with separate controls for the rear, power windows, locks and mirrors, cruise control, privacy glass and better quality cloth. The xle upgrade package #1 1,690) provides leather trim, second-row captains chairs, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, six-way power driver's seat and a premium audio system with radio, cassette, and cd changer and eight jbl speakers. The package is $757, the same price as last year when it didn't include the roof rack and keyless entry. walkaroundwith its clean, conventional looks, the toyota sienna is a classic minivan with subtle touches of sport-utility styling. The long, sloping nose is unmistakably minivan, but square lines elsewhere, particularly when viewed from the rear, recall a sport-utility vehicle. Where many minivans display vast sweeps of metal, the sienna has a relatively even proportion of glass to metal, another suv characteristic. sienna is built on a stretched version of the toyota camry platform. It is built on the same georgetown, kentucky, assembly line as the camry. Basing the sienna on the camry results in nice road manners. These savings allow toyota to bring the price of the sienna closer to the norm for the class. sitting in the driveway, the sienna looks neat and compact. Its just-right size fits in between the chrysler town & country and voyager. The sienna is 6 inches narrower inside than the chrysler minivans. interiorthe toyota sienna is roomy, despite its moderate length. Three-row seating is standard, and the rear cargo area is an accommodating 18 inches deep from hatch opening to seatback. The seats can be removed with the seat backs folded flat, which make them easier to handle. The seat latches are superbly executed; they release easily and are simple to re-install. getting in and out of the sienna is easy. Dual sliding doors are now standard and ensure passengers get in and out in a hurry and minimize running around to the far side of the vehicle to grab a kid. Child-safety door locks defeat the inside door handles on all sliding doors. At the full-open position, an interlock stopper prevents sliding doors from sliding closed when parked on a downhill grade. A half-door stopper prevents the left-side sliding door from fully opening when the fuel lid is opened to prevent the door from making contact with the fueling area. the optional right-side power sliding door can be opened by pressing buttons on the dash, keyless remote or b-pillar, or by pulling on the inside or outside latches. A switch next to the steering wheel allows the driver to override these buttons so that the power sliding door cannot be opened. The power sliding door feature works without having the key in the ignition. The power sliding door can be opened like a normal door when the power switch is turned off. The power sliding door senses when an obstacle is in its path and automatically retracts. step-in height is much lower than that of an suv, making getting in and out much easier for shorter people, older people and everyone else. Once in, the driver enjoys an expansive view of the road, though the seating position is not as high as in many sport-utility vehicles. Visibility is excellent in all directions, thanks to all the glass. Big mirrors (power on le and xle models) offer a good view to the rear. Instruments are big, bright and easy to read. all seating positions are very comfortable. Optional leather upholstery is attractive, luxurious and easy to clean. The rear two rows of seats provide enough room to comfortably seat six people, though they don't offer as much room as the bigger honda odyssey, dodge grand caravan or chrysler town & country. Little nets attached to the sides of the front seats are great for storing toll tickets, sunglasses or wallets. Fold-down cupholders next to the storage net secure drinks but flip up out of the way when not in use; they don't look like they'd hold tall drinks well, but securely held my venti-sized paper cappuccino cup. the second row can be equipped with either captain's chairs or a two-place bench seat. The seatbacks fold down to provide a flat surface for food and games and cupholders. Molded into the doors are round holders suitable for one-liter bottles. Cupholders, up to 14 of them, are everywhere. The steering isn't as sharp, and the transient response isn't as crisp as some of the other minivans; it leans in the corners, and seems a bit mushy in transient maneuvers. But overall, the sienna handles well and its soft suspension makes up for any handling deficiencies with its smooth ride quality and solid stability at high speeds. toyota's v6 is easy to live with. It's smooth, reliable, and economical. Power isn't an issue. It generates 210 horsepower, slightly more than the ford windstar's 3. 8-liter v6 and on par with the chrysler voyager's 3. 3-liter v6. Passing other vehicles on hills is easy: punch it and the sienna takes off, quickly putting slower vehicles away. Toyota recommends premium fuel. It always chooses the right gear, forming a team with the v6. It's smooth and comfortable. Loading passengers and cargo is easy and convenient, aided by optional power sliding doors. the sienna may lack a few features that can be found on some of its competitors, such as the rear audio jacks on the. 2002 chevrolet suburban review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Can't beat the 'burb. introductionthis is the best vehicle to buy for anyone who needs to haul six or more people and cargo at the same time. Six or more people can travel in comfort, even in the third-row seat. And there's still room for stuff in back. Fold the seats down and this thing will move a mountain of cargo. It's a great companion for long trips, even when towing a hefty trailer. the least-expensive base model is gone, but the chevrolet suburban continues to provide excellent value in a jumbo package. The suburban was totally redesigned and re-engineered for 2000 and arrived with more powerful engines, a more rigid frame, re-engineered suspension that provided excellent handling, improved brakes and an upgraded interior. the vehicle was vastly improved, and the improvements continued last year with even more horsepower for the 2500 model's standard 6. 0-liter v8 engine and with a new 8. 1-liter v8 available. Two trim levels are available: ls and lt. Suburban 1500s come equipped with a 5. 3-liter v8. The 2500s are available with a choice of 6. 0-liter or 8. 1-liter v8s. in two-wheel drive, the ls starts at $35,443 and the lt at $38,209. It was completely redesigned for 2000, which gave it a smoother and more aerodynamic look. Sharp edges were rounded. New headlights gave it a more contemporary appearance. But there was no mistaking the 'burb. two tailgate configurations are available. A lightweight, one-piece rear hatch similar to those found on compact suvs is useful for families and can be opened with one hand. Chevrolet lists it as a no-cost option. Cargo doors are also useful when pulling trailers because they will usually clear the trailer tongue jack. And i like them because it's easier to control my dog when i open them. The hinges have been re-engineered for a more finished appearance; and they let the doors open wide without having to disconnect the hinges. a puddle lamp mounted below the side mirrors shines down to light up the perimeter of the suburban. It's a nice feature that can be turned on using the keyless remote when approaching the suburban in a dark parking garage, as it illuminates underneath the vehicle. The third-row seatback folds down without having to remove the headrests, then the whole thing flips forward to substantially increase cargo capacity. A short prop rod locks it into place. This bench seat can be easily removed as it's mounted on wheels; it weighs 75 pounds, however, so get some help before pulling it out the back end of the suburban. Loading cargo is easy because there's plenty of space for it; lift-over height is lower than that of the ford excursion. Lt's leather seats seem more supportive. The second row is quite comfortable. Headphone jacks allow rear-seat passengers to listen to cds while those up front turn on the radio. Getting back there requires folding and flipping the seat out of the way. though my height-challenged mother-in-law found getting into the suburban a bit of a step up, it isn't a problem for those of standard stature. Step-in height is actually lower than before because of the new fully boxed frame. She liked the running boards, which make getting in easier. driving impressionride quality in the suburban 1500 is smooth, greatly improved over the previous-generation suburban. The optional premium ride suspension features a hydraulically controlled rear self-leveling system to keep the suburban at normal ride height even when carrying heavy loads. This system offered a good ride quality on the suburban i drove. the more sophisticated optional autoride suspension system uses computer-controlled shock damping for improved ride quality over uneven pavement. Whether towing a horse trailer or picking up a soccer team, autoride continually adjusts the suspension for optimum ride and handling. This technology also helps reduce dive on braking (so that the nose of the vehicle doesn't dip down unduly), and body roll (or lean) during cornering. Driving quickly over wet pavement on mountain roads, we never lost traction. We drove into wet turns as quickly as we'd ever want to go in a suburban and never lost grip. The frame is completely re-engineered. The entire front part of the frame is hydro-formed from one piece of metal and is far more rigid than a bunch of pieces welded together. the 2500 models, often referred to as the 3/4-ton versions, are only needed for those who tow heavy trailers. Rated to tow up to 10,500 pounds, they effectively match the towing capacity of the ford excursion. Suburban 2500 will ride a bit harsher because its rear suspension uses leaf springs instead of the coil-springs used on the 1500. But the 2500 rides surprisingly well, given its load range, a big improvement over the previous-generation 2500 models and smoother than the big ford excursion. until 2000, suburbans came with mushy brakes. Gm redesigned the brake system to address this. The pedal now works smoothly and progressively, which makes is easier to stop without drama. A dynamic rear proportioning system modulates the pressure applied to the rear brakes for more effective braking. Brake pads and rotors are 40 percent larger and use twin-piston calipers. Those in the sunbelt may not see justification for it. If conditions are fluctuating, hit the auto 4wd button and the autotrac all-wheel-drive system automatically transfers power from a slipping wheel to the wheels with the best traction; no input is needed from the driver. the 2500's 6. 0-liter v8 has aluminum heads and last year got a revised camshaft that helps it produce a nice, round 300 horsepower. We haven't tried the new 8. 1-liter v8, but responsiveness from either the 5. 3 or 6. 0 is excellent. suburban's automatic transmission comes with a tow/haul mode. Pressing a switch on the end of the column shifter changes the shift points of the transmission. The tow/haul mode improves performance while towing and lessens wear on the transmission. Even when not towing, it works well when driving through mountainous terrain. summarywe love the 'burb. It's a great vehicle for moving cargo, towing trailers, or hauling people. 2006 chevrolet equinox review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. It's bigger than each of them (including the all-new 2006 rav4). Equinox is big enough that its dimensions blur the line between compact and midsize sport utilities. It's nearly 14 inches longer than the ford escape and just three inches shorter than a chevy trailblazer. as a result, the equinox is roomier than other compact suvs, and has features that enhance its versatility. The back seats are mounted on tracks and slide fore and aft. Slide the seats rearward for more rear legroom. The rear seatbacks also recline for additional comfort. However, equinox only seats five because it does not offer a hopelessly cramped third row as the new rav4 does. it long wheelbase gives the equinox good stability and ride quality. Like the cr-v, rav4, and escape, equinox is based on a passenger car design. equinox was launched as a 2005 model so there aren't any major changes for 2006. However, the 2006 models do come standard with anti-lock brakes, cruise control, and other features, which wasn't the case last year. Also, interior changes have been made for 2006 to improve the appearance and function of the cabin. Both are available with front-wheel drive (fwd) or all-wheel drive (awd). Equinox comes standard with a 3. 4-liter v6 and five-speed automatic transmission. The 2006 equinox ls packs more standard equipment than last year, and the lt level has been split into two sub-levels called lt1 and lt2. equinox ls fwd 21,755) and awd 23,505) come with air conditioning; cruise control; cloth upholstery; a fold-flat front passenger seat; a multi-flex 60/40 split rear bench seat that folds, slides, and reclines; six-speaker am/fm/cd audio; and power windows, mirrors, and locks with remote keyless entry. Bumpers are body-color for 2006. Ls fwd comes standard with traction control. lt1 fwd 23,050) and awd 24,675) add fog lights, carpeted floor mats, deep tinted glass, and 16-inch aluminum wheels. Mirrors, door handles, and roof-rack side rails are body-color rather than charcoal or black. Sound system options expand considerably at the lt1 level, and include a six-speaker am/fm/cd/mp3 unit with rds 135); a similar unit incorporating a six-cd changer 395); and digital audio with xm satellite radio 325). Also available: a tilt-and-slide sunroof 595) and luggage rack cross-bars 95). lt2 fwd 24,180) and awd 25,805) add an auto-dimming inside rearview mirror with an eight-point compass and outside temperature display, leather-wrapped steering wheel with redundant audio controls, and 17-inch aluminum wheels. Side-impact and head-curtain airbags are optional 395) offering torso protection and head protection in the event of a side impact or rollover. But its side-view shape is quite a bit different from the rest of the family, and we like it. the roof pillars and the sheetmetal above the windows but below the roof seem to be extra-thick, imparting a feeling of extra solidity and strength, important for a truck made on a car platform. It's a sound that no other chevrolet truck makes. the equinox look solidly planted on its wheels. Its bigger size is evident everywhere. Up front, equinox carries flexible net storage pockets on both sides of the center tunnel. The center console/armrest has a small storage cubby and a coin holder for toll money. Dual cupholders pop out of the end of it, but they're flimsy and get in the way of the handbrake. The armrest flips up, providing better access to an open floor console that's a perfect place for a purse, briefcase or tote bag. Improvements for '06 include new knobs for climate control (and a claim of improved performance), and better integration of the passenger-side airbag cover. Down on the console, the t-handle shifter on the '05 models has given way to a more conventional shift lever for '06. Seat heaters are now available with cloth as well as leather seats, and the seat-heating controls of been re-located to the instrument panel. the rear seat rides on a track that allows it to slide back and forth by up to eight inches, to bring kids or briefcases closer to the front, or to provide extra legroom for tall second-row passengers. Gm calls this innovative feature the multi-flex rear seat. Rear passengers also enjoy a 12-volt power outlet and dual slide-out cupholders. Rear head restraints have been down-sized slightly for '06, improving rearward visibility for the driver. gm's designers have used the space above the wheel wells to a handy cargo storage system. A lightweight reversible panel slides into slots on the equinox's wheel wells at three different heights. Carpeted on one side and plastic on the other, the panel can serve as shelf, cargo cover or even a picnic or tailgating table. The tops of the wheel wells contain storage bins for small items. And there are several tie-downs and hooks on the panel from which to hang grocery bags. However, this system is being eliminated during the 2006 model year to increase cargo capacity. xm satellite radio is a great feature when traveling cross country because the stations don't change. Simply press the blue button and a human operator responds, to provide directions and other assistance. It delivers good acceleration and it's smooth enough. Epa fuel economy estimates are 19/24 mpg city/highway for front-drive models and 18/23 for the awd version. The 3. 4-liter v6 is an old overhead-valve design that lacks modern features such as variable valve timing and variable-length intake runners. So it feels strained when pushed at high rpm. It delivers 185 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. the v6 engine is aided considerably by the five-speed automatic transmission. Chevrolet says the equinox can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 8. 5 seconds, which should be adequate performance for most families. And while it may not excel at acceleration, equinox is rated to pull a 3500-pound trailer. its long wheelbase and 3600-pound heft give the equinox a decent ride, making it a suitable companion for long trips. Its handling is responsive and it's easy to modulate the brakes for smooth stops. the equinox has good road feel in highway driving, yet the driver may notice that steering effort is very low at low speeds for easier maneuvering in tight parking lots. The steering ratio is variable, and the equinox uses electric, rather than hydraulic, power steering. An electronic control unit programmed for a variety of performance characteristics regulates an electric motor mounted adjacent to the steering column, providing the right amount of assist for a given driving situation. We don't think the average driver will feel the difference between this system and more conventional hydraulics, and that's a good thing. Unlike a hydraulic servo, the.
