It had traditional lincoln presence and advanced cyber-connectivity, which we liked, but as an over-the-road automobile, we found it merely competent. for 2010, however, mks has smelled the coffee, and the result is bracing. As before, the car remains commodious and dignified, providing comfortable seating for five and offering, for those who choose it, the original mildly interesting 2009 drivetrain. But for those who want more, a lot more, the 2010 mks provides a brilliant new engine package and a range of canny under-the-skin additions that transform this car into a serious performer in the luxury sedan segment. chief among the 2010 additions is ford's all-new ecoboost engine. Combined with an enlivened suspension and a goodly list of new standard conveniences, this engine makes the latest mks vastly more than just competent. Press down the accelerator of the ecoboost v6 and it races ahead with v8-like forcefulness, while still delivering efficient v6 fuel mileage. The buttons and switches and a/c ducting adjusters felt generic, as if they might be found on any ford. Otherwise, the appearance and materials in the cabin were swank. the mks benefits from the luxury of fine leather seating. The front seat cushion and particularly the backrest provide steadying lateral support. Both front seats have 12-way and lumbar adjustments. The twin front seats are both heated and cooled, and the rear seats are heated. Long-range driving comfort is good and the fit and quality of the leather is excellent throughout. Visibility is similarly excellent from the driving position. The forward-leaning proximity of the headrest to the back of the head was a minor annoyance, but it is placed there for improved safety and cannot be adjusted. the stepped gearshift controlling the selectshift six-speed automatic is simple and straightforward, and the paddle shifters, standard in the ecoboost, are located on each side of the steering wheel, allowing full manual shifting. Fully automatic shifting is provided normally, but for curvier roads where engine braking will heighten control, the paddle shifts are invaluable. the hvac system provided generous torrents of cooling or warming air. the navigation system features a bright, eight-inch screen. The great american full-size suv. introductionthe suburban nameplate is the longest-running in chevrolet history. It is the first vehicle to reach 75 years of production and this year chevrolet will commemorate that milestone with a 2010 75th anniversary diamond edition model. Something that will tow a sizable trailer and carry lots of people or haul a load of cargo over primitive roads is an indispensible tool for those who need it. That's the suburban's mission. It has gotten more luxurious over the years, sometimes becoming a substitute for a large sedan. the suburban can handle 137 cubic feet of cargo, or up to nine passengers and 45 cubic feet of stuff, and myriad combinations in between. Two weight classes are offered, the normal 1500 and the heavy-duty 2500. the suburban's competitors in the full-size field are obvious. All the engines offer flex fuel capability, meaning they will operate on gasoline or e85, which is 85-percent ethanol. There is a 6. 0-liter with variable valve timing for the 2500 models. All radios have a usb port to accept compatible music devices. There are a couple of new options packages, and the 1lt trim level now includes tri-zone climate control, a bose nine-speaker premium audio system, power-adjustable pedals, remote start, rear park assist, and locking rear differential. The z71 off-road suspension is available on the 1lt trim level. lineupthe 2010 chevy suburban comes with 2wd or 4wd, and in half-ton 1500 series or three-quarter-ton 2500 series. Onstar is upgraded to directions & connections service, which includes turn-by-turn navigation. the very well-equipped ltz 2wd 52,880) and 4wd 55,625) models add navigation, xm navtraffic, second-row bucket seats, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, perforated leather seating surfaces, three-zone automatic climate control, bose centerpoint surround sound, rear park assist, autoride suspension with rear air assist/self-leveling, and many other features and conveniences. a z71 off-road package 1,830) is offered only on the lt trim level, in 2wd or 4wd. Safety-related options include rear park assist, rear-view camera, and side blind zone alert. Side airbags are not available. walkaroundthe suburban's profile is elegant in its simplicity, no lines drawing the eye up or down, just a smooth clean surface from one end to the other like an aircraft. Big boxes are best carried in big boxes, not sloping hatchbacks. the suburban has a square-jawed face that's smooth and rugged at the same time, a twin to the shorter tahoe. The mesh grille is split by a gold chevy bowtie, and the daytime running lights use separate lamps and can be switched off for after-dark campground arrivals. The bumper fascia reveals a low license-plate holder sandwiched by openings for tow hooks, with small round fog lamps at the corners like single teardrops falling from the headlamp eyes. The seam between the fascia and fenders is very tight, and a good indication of gm's solid body quality on the current generation of trucks. the hood has two long bulges at its sides, reaching almost from windshield to grille; chevy calls these twin bulges the power dome; we call them a good way to keep such a large expanse of otherwise-flat steel from fluttering, just as long-cab pickups have grooves on the roof. For aesthetics we would prefer if the roof-mounted antenna were centered but long, flat cargo on the roof might present a problem. the rear liftgate is vertical, and the rear window opens independently, with both the manual and power liftgate, which is aluminum, reducing the weight and thus the effort to raise and lower it. Rear wiper coverage is average at best. Some are nearly void of chrome while the z71 adds machismo with sizable fender flares and side steps so short drivers can get in and tall ones can mess up their pant legs. the standard wheels are five-spoke, 17-inch aluminum. Polished wheels are available. Also available are 20-inch wheels that look good, but we think they are too big for grown-ups. Taller tire sidewalls yield a better ride and in most consumer-magazine testing those large-diameter wheels don't go, stop or handle any better, they just ride harder so we prefer the 17-inch wheels. With all the seats in place and set for passengers, 45. 8 cubic feet of cargo space is available, with 90 behind the second row with the third row removed. But there is a nice compartment over the left wheel well, for tools, flashlights, snow chains or the like. smart storage space abounds. The huge console has deep storage and a tray on top. There are two cup holders in a removable tray forward of the console, and one in each wide door pocket. With a middle-row bench seat the right third of the seat folds independently of the left, easing curb-side entry to the third row or allowing skis or boards on the right with two passengers on the left.

A crossover, it's constructed more like a car than a truck, so it's lighter and has a more rigid chassis than a truck does. acadia delivers what most people want from a full-size suv. The driver sits high off the ground and has a commanding view of the road. The acadia can carry a lot of cargo. We found it seats six adults comfortably. We recommend opting for ultrasonic rear park assist, which can detect objects out of the driver's line of sight. We further recommend getting the rearview camera, which projects its image on the navigation screen or the rearview mirror. However, in a messy chicago winter, the camera lens became speckled with dirt and salt, making the small image on the rearview mirror hard to see. A larger image on a navigation screen would have been easier to see and more helpful. An effective rearview camera is a valuable piece of safety equipment because it can help the driver spot a child behind the vehicle before backing up.
